How To Moisturize And Maintain 4C Textured Hair

If you aren’t sure how to properly moisturize and maintain your hair this post is for you. In order to ensure that you always have BOMB hair, it’s best for you to have a proper hair care regimen. Before we begin let me elaborate on what I really intended to say. “Bomb hair” is basically just a really cool and hip way to define healthy hair. It is hair that has moisture, volume, and shine. Your “Hair” care regimen is how you care for your hair. This can include the products you use, how often you shampoo, and how you do it. These are the products that I used for my hair. You can use whichever products you choose but the main goal is to follow the basic routine.

Hair Care Routine Basics

The basic steps that you should include in your hair care regimen are cleansing, conditioning, deep conditioning, moisturizing, and styling. After the styling, the last step should be protecting your hair when you are preparing for bed. This is something we don’t do most of the time but it’s best to keep your hair protected as much as possible to ensure healthy, strong, and growing hair.

Lately, I will admit that I haven’t had the time to properly care for my hair. Recently as stated in a previous post I mentioned the new products I have begun to try and test out. Along with these products, I also incorporated a few other items into my regimen for wash day. These are the products that I used during my last two wash days.

  1. Aunt Jackies coco repair coconut creme deep conditioner
  2. Aussie Miracle Coils Shampoo
  3. Nourishing Daily Scalp Tonic w/ organic quinoa and pea sprout
  4. Originals by Africas Best Olive and Aloe Anti breakage Growth lotion
  5. Softee Herbal gro hair grease
  6. Suave coconut conditioner

Sectioning The Hair

First, section your hair so that you can have a better pathway when you begin the application of the hair products. You can section your hair off in many different ways.

You can use hair ties, hair clips, jumbo twists, or large braids among other things. You can use a comb to part your hair off or separate it using your fingers. I prefer to use my fingers that way I have less breakage since the hair can easily become tangled.

If you are using a comb to section, a wide tooth comb would be the best tool to prevent painful detangling.

Cleanse With Shampoo

Apply the shampoo to your scalp and hair strands. After applying the product massage and distribute the product into the hair evenly and thoroughly.

Rinse the hair completely. If the residue remains, rinse the remaining shampoo until the water and hair look clear. Do not worry too much if some still remains since you will be following that with hair conditioner afterward.

I would suggest washing your hair one section at a time. After washing one section be sure to twist or clip the hair in that section to ensure faster conditioning. I used the Aussie shampoo for this wash day.

Condition The Hair

Second, I applied the suave conditioner to each section of the hair. I used medium-sized sections to apply this because I will be deep conditioning after. I was being extremely diligent in applying it to the hair strands and saturating them completely.

Normally I would suggest using a better brand for the final step on a normal wash day. This would be a wash day without deep conditioning. I like the suave brand but I don’t necessarily fancy the way the conditioner feels on my hair.

Leave the conditioner on your hair for about 5-10 minutes then wash it out.

Apply the deep conditioner to your hair in the same manner as you did the conditioner. For the best results be sure that you apply this product in smaller sections and smooth the product into the hair strands.

After the product is applied place a plastic cap over your hair and sit under a hooded dryer for about 10- 15 minutes.

I planned on leaving this product on for a longer period of time so I went to sleep with the conditioner in my hair and washed it out the next afternoon.

Moisturize The Hair

After I washed the deep conditioning treatment from my hair, I twisted it in 5-6 large twists. I did this so that I could allow my hair to air dry without adding additional minutes to my routine.

Once my hair was dry I began to un-twist one section at a time and apply the scalp tonic. I parted my hair into sub-sections (Smaller parts) with my fingers and sprayed the scalp tonic onto the scalp area of each sub-section.

I massaged this product into my scalp and then sprayed the tonic onto the hair strands. The hair should be slightly damp and not wet after spraying.

After using the scalp tonic I applied the herbal gro grease to the scalp area over the tonic. After greasing the entire scalp area of that section, I applied the Olive and Aloe hair lotion to the hair strands. Once the hair was moisturized to a softened state I detangled the hair.

I performed this method on every section of the hair until it was complete. After moisturizing the hair in each section I added 2-3 smaller twists to the hair in the section. Complete your hair routine by styling your hair.

After the style is in place and cover it with a head scarf or satin bonnet.
