With the rise of many day-to-day living expenses, trying to save money can be a very daunting task. As soon as you think you’re getting ahead, the holiday season rolls around. And this is a repeating cycle we all dread. I’m here to help you out just a bit with what I call hopeful inspiration. The main goal of this post is to assist you in elevating your Halloween cheer and festive spirit for a positive celebration.
Save Money With DIY Costumes
If you are typically a creative person, creating your own costume may be more fun than purchasing one. If you can sew, that will give you a greater variety of items you can create. If you can’t sew, try to use items that you already own to create something new and fresh. Always remember that face paint can go a long way. When thinking of your costume, be sure to remember that you don’t have to be a character we already know. You can create your own costume character since that’s where the magic begins!
Rent A Costume
You can typically shop on the internet for a variety of things. This includes finding places that not only sell costumes but rent them too. Finding a company that has a costume rental service will be very beneficial to you. This will allow you to switch up your Halloween costumes throughout the years without the headache. Simply go online, type in the search bar for rental places, and shop the sites. Some of your findings may have physical stores you can go to.
Either way, if you don’t have an idea of your own just check to see what they have available. Pick something from there, and you’re set to go! Here are some links that I found for costume rentals. Doing a location search may be more helpful though.
- The Theatre Company
- Costumesgalore
- Costumeworld
Thrift Store Shop
Many times when we shop for Halloween costumes we only intend to wear them once. Very seldom do people wear the same Halloween costume a second time. Especially not the year after it was purchased. Many of us save our old Halloween costumes for later use or throw them away. Some of us donate them when we decide it’s time to clean out our closets. Others pass them down to their children or trade them with friends. A Thrift store will be a good place to look for a costume, or decorations for the season at a reasonable price. We may even find the costume we intended to buy that had been donated before our search.
Wear Pajamas
Many big and small department stores sell pajamas that closely resemble Halloween attire. While this may not be a “costume” pajamas that have Halloween prints work just as well. You can find one-piece pajama sets that are in the form of animals. Some of them come with attached hoods which makes the costume look more real and believable. Doing this will help you save money because instead of putting your costume in the closet never to be seen again you can wash and wear your pajamas year-round for as long as they will fit.
Buy Novelty Items
Give out novelty Items along with candy. Companies like Oriental Trading are places where you can buy large quantities of items at a great price. This will be a good addition to your Halloween candy purchase because these items you can purchase ahead of time. Incorporating Halloween toys into your candy bowl will allow you to stretch your budget. You can buy these items right after Halloween to begin the hoard for next year. This will also be a good idea if you will be making Halloween candy bags for your kids instead of taking them to trick o treat.
Recycle Household Items
Do you have items that you used to decorate after moving into your home? You can easily dress these items up and turn them into Halloween decor. Doing this will be a good way to save money because you can decorate the same items for other holidays throughout the year. Many people have begun to repurpose their Christmas trees and decorate them for other holidays such as Valentine’s Day and Easter.
Save your decorations
Let’s be honest and admit that decorating can be very expensive. Most people don’t decorate for the seasons because it may be hard to fit it into their budget after paying monthly expenses. They may also have purchased Halloween costumes to go out instead of staying in. Keeping your decorations will set you up for a better collection of items to use for the next year. You can also purchase decorations that are on sale right after the Halloween season is over. This will be good for next year’s preparation. You can continue to add items throughout the year until you are ready for your elaborate showcase.
